EDUCATING 4 EQUALITY

Activities

DokuFest has organized film screenings in high schools in Kosovo, with the Directorate of Education of which the Municipality has had agreements, after selecting and securing the rights to educational documentaries. Despite the pandemic, DokuFest has found ways to organize screenings online, while different teachers from different schools have applied the methods of including the film in the teaching process. A discussion was organized between teachers and students on social topics after the screenings. The access to the Teacher's Digital Library also contributed to this, and after online performances and the release of pandemic measures, DokuFest continued to screen films in high schools even physically. "DokuFest on Tour" presented the films of the documentary film school "Future is Here" in Prishtina, Peja and Shtime. Young filmmakers also took part on the screenings and debated with the public on social topics mainly featured in their films, such as gender equality, countering violence and discrimination based on gender and sexual identity, through film and media literacy. During the project students got to experience screenings in the backyard of the high school campus in Gjilan, where all high schools' students watched movies that talk about women's rights and gender equality. A discussion took place between students, teachers, school principals and representatives of directorate of education on these topics. This grant is supported by the ‘Civil Society programme for Albania and Kosovo’, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Kosovar Civil Society Foundation (KCSF) in partnership with Partners Albania for Change and Development (PA)

"The documentary film school has taught me how to channel my thoughts and how to dream. I've learned to see the world through different eyes and to find inspiration to tell a story in every corner of my life. Since then, I've never stopped making films because the inspiration, will, and knowledge I've gained accompany me every day in my life."
