DOKUFEST ON TOUR PËR ‘EDUCATING 4 EQUALITY’

DOKUFEST ON TOUR FOR 'EDUCATING 4 EQUALITY'

Closing series of activities of the ‘Education for Equality’ project supported by the “Civil Society Program for Kosovo and Albania” funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by the Kosovo Civil Society Foundation (KCSF) in cooperation with Albanian Partners for Development and Change (PA), brought a rich film program from DokuFest to Prishtina, Peja and Shtime.

‘DokuFest on Tour’ is an interweaving of 2 projects in the DokuFest - DokuLab educational program, which manages the Youth Film Production Center and empowers teachers in the use of audio-visual tools in the learning process and their connection with traditional methods, which address complex issues, develop critical thinking and promote social development among young people.

In 2020, through the ‘School and Documentary Film’ project, 14 high school students created 8 films that address social issues that are the focus of these age groups. Topics covered include climate change, local traditions, plagiarism in academic circles, sexual identity, violence against women, and more.

Led by the project mentor, the well-known Kosovar director Blerta Zeqiri, these young people managed to share these films with the DokuFest audience last year, through the online edition of the Festival. Now, after the screening in Prizren, it is time for these stories of young people in the form of a documentary to be presented to the audience of peers and parents in other cities. This caravan left on Friday at 18:00 from Kino Armata, and continued its journey to the Cinema ‘Jusuf Gërvalla’ in Peja on May 28, concluding the program on May 31 at the House of Culture in Shtime.

This program, in addition to providing the opportunity to organize public discussions through the film on topics that are of interest to young people, offers the opportunity for teachers to integrate these films in the learning process, using didactic materials for the use of film in the classroom in accordance with the Curricular Framework of the Republic of Kosovo located in the Digital Teacher Library created by DokuFest, which is accredited as an organization by the Ministry of Education and Science for the professional development of teachers for Licensing.

The head of DokuLab, which is the education program of DokuFest, Eroll Bilibani emphasized that ‘The Digital Teacher Library was created in order to provide a service for teachers to have access to films and accompanying educational materials, which are in line with the curriculum and help make them a more interesting and interactive lesson and at the same time help their students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and tendencies that are essential for a democratic society.’

As part of this project, the DokuFest team has managed to organize a series of training sessions for high school students in articulating their stories and concerns through short videos, which will be used to address the issues that are a priority for these age groups.
