HUMAN RIGHTS IN FILM

Universal Human Rights Month is observed around the world every year throughout the month of December. This month people across the globe are encouraged to unite and raise their voices for the equality, justice and dignity of all people.

With the support of the Swedish Embassy, DokuFest in the framework of the program 'Strengthening a Democratic Society through Art and Culture' in honor of this month has curated a special film program that emphasizes the topics of fundamental human rights, evidence of human rights violations and creates a forum for courageous individuals on both sides of the objective to empower the audience with the knowledge that personal commitment can make a difference. The seven documentaries were screened in the cinema of the city of DokuKino and with the commitment of the students of the high schools of Prizren we have joined the people all over the globe to defend the equality, justice and dignity of all people. > The film program has included the films such as I am Greta, Smog Town, A woman Captured, For Sama, Little Plaestine – Diary of a Siege, Favela Frontlines and Notturno. Each film session was attended by high school students from Prizren, followed by interactive debates about the topic covered in each film. All of these activities stem from the vision of DokuFest's education department with the aim of developing new audiences and empowering society, in particular young age groups, by stimulating critical and analytical thinking and providing a discussion platform to express free thought through the power of argument and where different opinion is respected. The audience consisted of high school students from the Scientific Gymnasium ‘Gjon Buzuku’, the Social Gymnasium ‘Remzi Ademaj’, the Technical High School ‘11Marsi’, the Medical High School ‘Luciano Motroni’ and the Economic High School ‘Ymer Prizreni’. Students of these schools will continue to participate during the second semester in 2022, through the project ‘Digital Film Factory’ supported by the recovery package of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. This program will focus on the development of new audiences, as well as the social development of young people and the cultivation of a culture of communication driven by the themes of films. Climate Change, Girl Empowerment and Gender Equality, Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion as well as Media Education and Multimedia are the topics that will be addressed through the Digital Film Factory from January to June 2022. In addition to screenings, the program will include the organization of discussion forums that will bring together young people, experts and decision makers throughout Kosovo.

"At the heart of social challenges and global changes, art and education unite to illuminate the path towards mutual understanding and cooperation. Through films and educational programs, young people are empowered to build a shared future in harmony and peace."
