Four Films Featured in DokuFest’s 23rd Edition Now Competing for the Oscars
Four films showcased in the 23rd edition of DokuFest in 2024 have been nominated for the Oscars.
The films "No Other Land," "Soundtrack to a Coup D'etat," "Sugarcane," and "Incident" have been selected in the categories for Best Documentary Feature and Best Documentary Short Film.
"Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat," directed by Johan Grimonprez, tackles a historical event related to the Cold War and protests through music against the assassination of Patrice Lumumba. "No Other Land," created by a Palestinian-Israeli collective, tells the story of the destruction of Masafer Yatta in the West Bank. "Sugarcane" is an investigation into the abuse and disappearance of children in Indian residential schools, while "Incident," directed by Bill Morrison, reconstructs the 2018 police shooting in Chicago from different perspectives.

DokuFest’s educational department DokuLab manages the FilmProduction Centre for Youth and empowers teachers in use of audiovisual tools in classroom in conjunction with traditional methods for deeper understanding of complex issues and promotion of social development of youth.
